We want to know how the use of artificial intelligence changes your class time and homework. Students and teachers at all levels of education use it, even as researchers work in real time to analyze its effects, good and bad, on learning.
A majority of students and teachers report using AI regularly, with equal numbers saying it enhances and harms learning. Recent research indicates that its unregulated use erodes math skills. And there is widespread concern that it reduces students’ ability to analyze problems and think critically.
Professors face a daunting task because so much academic work happens outside the classroom, and they wonder how to respond to students’ use of AI.
Although there has been a lot of publicity about cheating and how to combat it, we are more interested in knowing what professors are doing to understand what students are actually learning. Beyond the return of blue books and the end of take-home exams, how can teachers know what a student has learned from their class?
