Integrate buys CaliberMind and hopes to close the loop on B2B demand generation

B2B demand generation player Integrate announced Wednesday the acquisition of CaliberMind, a platform that brings together marketing and sales data and provides multi-touch attribution, account/buyer journey analytics, marketing mix modeling (MMM), account scoring and revenue intelligence.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. CaliberMind will remain a dedicated product line with the existing team and platform. Native integrations are expected to start appearing in the coming months, with broader interoperability coming next year.

Integration sits at the pinnacle of the B2B demand generation process. It ingests leads from tactics like content distribution, events, paid media, social, webinars, forms, and other sources, then validates, enriches, deduplicates, and applies data quality/consent rules before sending those records to your CRM, marketing automation platform (MAP), or other tools in the martech stack.

By combining the capabilities of these two companies, Integrate hopes to close the loop between marketing activity, pipeline and revenue. That loop looks like this:

  1. Acquire the question.
  2. Validate.
  3. Enrich.
  4. Itinerary
  5. Look at the buyer’s journey.
  6. Pipeline/revenue attribute.
  7. Identify what works.
  8. Edit targeting/spending.
  9. Acquire a better question.

Sounds good, right? The problem is that the Integrate-CaliberMind deal is not the first – or even the hundredth – attempt to close this cycle, if we’re honest.

Attempts to solve this B2B marketing mystery date back so far that they practically have their own archaeological record.

Is there a B2B marketing loop that needs to be closed?

The truth is, you could have put together all the tools to close the loop on B2B marketing revenue on Monday, two days before Integrate and CaliberMind joined forces. Add tools like CaliberMind, DemandBase, and 6sense to your martech stack with Salesforce and/or a MAP and you should be able to determine the next best steps and measure results.

At this point, I am confident that no amount of welding and blending of technology will close this loop because (and I’m not the first to suggest this) the loop is not the problem. Once the loop is closed, you have what appears to be a deterministic B2B buying cycle, but in reality it is an illusion.

The truth about B2B purchasing is ugly and confusing. There is a group of people involved and each does the research in their own way. Some will register for a webinar or download a whitepaper, which is the game Integrate has been playing for years. Some see an ad on LinkedIn; others see a mention in ChatGPT.

How do you attribute all this? (Not to mention the activity you can’t see.) How much weight do you give to each tactic to get 100%?

The problem is not the loop. It’s every step along the path of the cycle. This has been the real problem for years, but now we have the AI to exacerbate it.

Imagine taking all the messy data I just mentioned and feeding it to AI. The AI determined that a webinar was 80% of a $500,000 deal. Now, AI keeps your team churning out webinars until the cows come home.

What if it was wrong?
