Florida officials say a man fraudulently submitted 41 vehicle insurance applications for luxury cars he never owned. He then allegedly defrauded him of $206,000 by trying to demand a full refund of car insurance premiums he never paid.
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced the arrest of Adam Otrok. The arrest was made by the Department of Financial Services’ Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
According to CID investigators, Otrok used forged and fictitious personally identifiable information to submit vehicle insurance applications. Additionally, prosecutors said he would stop paying premiums from bank accounts with insufficient funds and then demand refunds before the insurance company discovered the invalid payments.
The state alleges he attempted to defraud the company out of $206,000 for his own financial gain and successfully obtained $44,704 in fraudulent funds.
Otrok was charged with organizational fraud, insurance fraud, theft and impersonation of a person’s identity. If convicted, Outrock could face up to 10 years in prison.
Outrock is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
