Lely North America, Inc., an international agricultural technology company headquartered in Pella, Iowa, has agreed to resolve discrimination charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. federal agency announced.
An EEOC investigation into the charges found that Lely violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it failed to provide former employees with pay increases based on sex.
The investigation also found that the former employee was harassed and constructively terminated based on his age, in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Under the settlement that resolves the charges, the former employees will receive $65,000 in back wages, restitution and attorney’s fees. Lely will train all North American employees, including supervisors, managers and human resources staff, on employee responsibilities and rights under Title VII and ADEA.
Lely will also provide compliance-related reports to the EEOC. The EEOC will monitor compliance with these obligations over the next two years.
