The Doctors Company said on June 26 that it had completed its acquisition of ProAssurance Corporation for $25 per share in cash, for a total value of approximately $1.3 billion.

ProAssurance is a specialty insurance company that provides medical liability, product liability, and workers’ compensation coverage to medical technology and life sciences companies. The Doctors Co. is a medical malpractice insurance company owned by physicians.

The combined company will protect more than 200,000 healthcare professionals and organizations nationwide and have $12 billion in assets. ProAssurance’s common shares will no longer be listed on the New York Stock Exchange and ProAssurance will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Doctors Co.

“We are building the most trusted and capable medical professional liability and specialty insurance company in the United States,” said Richard E. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of The Doctors Company and TDC Group. “This partnership brings together two mission-driven organizations with a shared commitment to advocacy, service excellence and long-term stability in the complex health care environment.”

The deal was announced in March 2025.
